WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
SIREN - “GET CAUGHT READING BY THE PRINCIPAL”: Starting Tuesday September 21. Attention all staff and students! Please make sure to have reading material available to you for SIREN. SIREN stands for Stop Immediately and Read Everything Now. This silent reading time should occur at the beginning of EACH period and should last for 10 minutes. The library has SIREN boxes available for classes that need reading materials. Starting this week, Mrs. McDonald will award prizes to lucky participants through her “Get Caught Reading by the Principal” campaign. Now is the time to get ready to read. (MO –Sep 24)
7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
7/8 CROSS COUNTRY: There will be a practice Tuesday September 21st and Thursday September 23rd for all grade 7/8 students who are trying out for cross country running. Please meet Mme Kinloch after school by the portables. Be prepared to run. The cross country running meet is Wednesday September 29th for those who do make the team. (JK –Sep 23)
AMBASSADORS: Do you want to help build a positive school? Help out with feeder school visits and parent nights? Raise funds for those in need? If so consider becoming an Ambassador. Any grade 7/8 student interested in becoming an Ambassador is invited to attend an information meeting this Friday at lunch in Student Services. (MP –Sep 24)
HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
ONTARIO STUDENTS AGAINST IMPAIRED DRIVING (OSAID) AT MOTHER TERESA: Are you interested in helping save lives? Do you want to gain valuable leadership experience? Come see what MTSAID is all about today at lunch in Room 203. (MK –Sep 23)
GRADE 12 STUDENTS: The counsellors will be meeting with all grade 12 students this week. Half the group will meet Thursday period 1 and half the group Friday period 1. Students on spare, as well as Coop students, are asked to attend either meeting. Co-op students please let your employer know which meeting you will be attending. (JH –Sep 24)

9 RUN RUN: Mother Teresa's Emergency Response Focus Program is Supporting this Charity Run in Stittsville (from Sacred Heart High School) on Saturday October 23, 2010. SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS: Many popular fiction titles at great prices are available to order from Scholastic. Shiver, The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay, The Red Pyramid, Sabotaged, Incarceron, Hunger etc. Drop by the library for a flyer. Orders are due in the library by Monday, September 27th. RING SALES: Looking to get a high school ring? We have good news for you. Jostens Rings will be back Monday, September 27th and Tuesday, September 28th during high school lunch to take your orders in the atrium. Check out the posters in the atrium. A deposit of $60.00 is required on the order days. Deposits can be cash, cheque (payable to JOSTENS), Visa, MC, or Amex. You can design your own ring at jostens.com. It’s so easy! (KW –Sep 28)
STUDENT SERVICES
GRADE 12 QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY VISIT: Queen's University will be visiting Mother Teresa on Tuesday Sept 28 during period 3. If you are interested in attending the presentation you must sign up in Student Services by the end of the day Monday Sept 27. You will receive an appointment slip on Tuesday to attend the meeting. UNIVERSITY FAIRS: John McCrae Secondary School, 103 Malvern Drive, Nepean is hosting the Ontario University and Atlantic University Fair in the Food Court on the 2nd Floor. All 21 Ontario Universities and 16 Atlantic Universities will be present at the Fair.

- ONTARIO UNIVERSITY FAIR IS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 19TH FROM 9:30 AM TO 11:00 AM

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Don't forget to check out the volunteer opportunities in Student Services. Opportunities include: Blast off to Wellness, a Family fun Day at Confederation High School on Oct 2nd. CNIB is looking for ongoing volunteers. FIT4KIDS are looking for after school help. If you are interested in careers as a paramedic MEDVENTS is recruiting on Sept 29th. There are many more. Come check them out on the clip board in Student Services. (TC –Sep 30)
GRADS
GRADUATING STUDENTS – POLICIES AND DEADLINES: In the past, it has been the practice of some graduating students to leave their Community Service Hours to the last month of school, thereby jeopardizing their graduation in June. As a result, the following policies are now in place at Mother Teresa:
· PROM: All graduating students must have completed their 40 hours of community service if they intend to attend their graduation dance. The earlier the better! Hours must be submitted to Student Services by May 13th, 2011.
- GRADUATION: In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, students must have the 40 hours of community service completed by Friday June 10, 2011.
Forms are available in Student Services, the main office, or on the Mother Teresa website. (SD –Sep 30)

EMERGENCY INFORMATION SHEETS: All staff members who have not yet returned their emergency information sheets are asked to do so as soon as possible. If you cannot find your sheet, please see Sharleen in the office for a new one. (SD – Sep 24)
