PENNY WARS: Penny Wars are here! Make a change with your change! Help South African kids with their education and nutrition! Win an iTouch! Put pennies and loonies in your homeroom bank and nickels, dimes, quarters, twoonies and bills in your opponents' banks. The Momma T War Chest will be found in the atrium during the school day so you can add coins throughout the day. Be sneaky! Be smart! Be strategic! BE GENEROUS! All the funds go to South Downs College in South Africa and are dispersed to two schools who are in great need of supplies and food. At the end of the week, the winning homeroom will be determined by having the most points. Students from South Downs College will then select the student in that winning homeroom who wins the iTouch. 7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS
ATTENTION GRADE 8 STUDENTS ATTENDING SEEDS-IN-RESIDENCE TRIP: There will be a mandatory meeting for ALL grade 8 students attending this trip on Tuesday, May 25th at lunch. Report to room 332 with your lunch promptly at 12:40 PM. (AJ –May 18)
MT 1st ANNUAL AIR BAND COMPETITION: This June, MT will be hosting its first Air Band Competition. Get your groups together and start rehearsing! Auditions will take place after school Tuesday, June 8th and Wednesday, June 9th from 3:05-4:30pm. A sign up sheet will be posted outside of room 240 where you must include all group members’ names, and the name of your song. Please ensure all song choices are appropriate for school. Successful air band performances will include costumes, choreography and thorough knowledge of the song lyrics. An information session will take place Thursday, May 20th in room 240 at the beginning of 7/8 lunch. (CS –May 20)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

MATH ENRICHMENT GRADE GROUPS PARTICIPANTS: All grade 9, 10, and 11 students who participated in the Math Enrichment Grade Groups, are asked to please come by room 303 at the start of lunch on Wednesday, May 19th for a brief and important meeting. (TS –May 19)
CO-OP: Students who signed up for co-op for next year are reminded to fill out an application form ASAP. Forms are available from Student Services and the Co-op Office (Room 111) (KN – May 19)
STRATFORD – OCTOBER 2010: Please return your permission forms and $100 deposit to Mrs. Simpson (Rm 138) by May 20th. If you are interested in seeing THREE fabulous shows next fall-- Evita (musical), Kiss me Kate (musical) and As You Like It (Shakespeare) -- please see Mrs. Simpson for a permission form. BLOOD DONOR CLINIC: There will be a blood donor clinic in the Mother Teresa High School gym on the morning of Friday, May 28th. You must be 17 years old and a minimum of 50 kg/110 lbs to donate (see the posters displayed around the school for more donation criteria). If interested, please sign up through your homeroom teacher or with Mrs McLaughlin in room 130. Family members are also invited to donate on May 28th (give their names to your HR teacher or Mrs McLaughlin also). (DM –May 28)
ATTENTION STUDENTS AGE 14 – 17: GET A FREE GOODLIFE FITNESS MEMBERSHIP THIS SUMMER! Explore GoodLife's NEW Teen Fitness Program:
- Must be 14-17 years of age (proof of age is required at first visit).
- Program membership duration: July 2nd, 2010 until August 31, 2010. All teen memberships expire on August 31, 2010.
- Valid between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm, seven days a week. Last check-in is at 3:00pm. All workouts must be completed by 4:00pm.
- Teens may workout up to 2 hours per day.
- It's FREE.

STUDENT SERVICES
ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: St. Anthony’s Church will be holding their annual Feast Day celebrations the weekend of Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th. This weekend culminates with the holy procession through the streets of Little Italy on the Sunday. Other activities include a barbeque, pasta feast and musical concerts. Volunteers would be involved in serving, manning barricades and other assorted duties. Community service hours would be given for any student who so requires. STUDENT VOLUNTEERS WANTED: Upper Canada Village Heritage Park will be holding its 3rd Annual Medieval Festival June 11-13. The Festival is looking for talented and energetic volunteers to act as wenches, guardsmen, peasants, villagers, games people, gate attendees and to help with set up and tear down. STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: June 18-20 at the Ferrari Festival. You will be part of a team ensuring that the public do not get too close to the parked and roped off sports cars as well as helping with the Dream Ride fundraiser for charity. Three-hour shifts are available Friday evening, Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning. You can sign up for more than one shift. GRADS
GRADE 12 MEETING: There will be a meeting for all grade 12's on Wednesday May 19 during period 2 in the multi-purpose room. Students on spare period 2 should also attend. You will be given Prom info, Grad Day info as well as the nomination ballet for this year's Valedictorian. Attend Period 2 for attendance and wait for a call-down. Please bring a pen to the meeting. PARENT COUNCIL BURSARY: The Parent Council of Mother Teresa High School is offering an award of $250 to both a male and female graduate. Applications are available at Student Services. The deadline is Wed. June 2, 2010. (RB –May 21)
BLACK CANADIAN SCHOLARSHIP: Deadline: May 31, 2010. Award: $5,000 (non-renewable). The scholarship application form can be accessed on our website: http://www.bcsf.ca/en/apply/guidelines. Check out scholarships on the MTHS webpage, under grads for this and other scholarships. Application must satisfy all selection criteria: Black Canadian Student graduating from a high school in the city of Ottawa, be admissible to a recognized Canadian university, demonstrate a need of financial assistance, be a Canadian citizen, demonstrate leadership in community involvement. GRADUATION CEREMONY TICKETS: Each graduate will be given 2 tickets for family to attend the Graduation Ceremony on June 24. To request more than two tickets students must sign up in Student Services from Monday May 3 to Friday May 21. This does not guarantee you will receive the extra number of tickets requested. Tickets will be distributed starting Tuesday June 1. (JH –May 21)
