LIBRARY CLOSURE: The library will be closed after school all this week. (CHV –May 14)
PENNY WARS: You can make a change in the lives of students in two South African schools and win an iPod Touch by strategically collecting coins. Next week you can put pennies and loonies in your homeroom's collection box to gain points. You can also put dimes, nickels, quarters, twoonies and bills in other homerooms to take away their points. That's what makes it a WAR! The winning homeroom at the end of next week will be determined and students from South Africa will determine which student in the winning homeroom gets the iPod Touch. Load your pockets with coins and aim carefully. More information to follow. (RM –May 14)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
WHAT’S YOUR TYPE? Personnel from Canadian Blood Services will be in the Career Centre on Friday, May 14th during HS lunch to tell you what your blood type is (A, B, AB or O) and whether you are Rh positive or Rh negative. The activity uses 1 drop of blood and takes 3 minutes. Please drop by! (DM –May 14)

KNITTING CLUB: The knitting club will meet during HS lunch MONDAY in the library seminar room. New members are always welcome. Come learn how to knit your own scarf, hat and mittens! We have extra supplies on hand to help you get started. (AH –May 17)

COME AND GET THEM – COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS THAT IS! It's Faces of A.C.E.S. - year-end BBQ bash at Adrienne Clarkson Elementary School, on Thursday, June 17th between 5pm - 8pm. Volunteers needed to assist with handing out food, taking tickets, running games, face painting, set up and take down. See binder in Student Services. (KW –May 14)
ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS: St. Anthony’s Church will be holding their annual Feast Day celebrations the weekend of Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th. This weekend culminates with the holy procession through the streets of Little Italy on the Sunday. Other activities include a barbeque, pasta feast and musical concerts. Volunteers would be involved in serving, manning barricades and other assorted duties. Community service hours would be given for any student who so requires. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED –RACE WEEKEND: May 29-30, 2010 Ottawa's Race Weekend! Volunteers are needed to work at the Sweat Check, water stations, information booths and more. For more information go to www.runottawa.com. (MP –May 21)
STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: June 18-20 at the Ferrari Festival. You will be part of a team ensuring that the public do not get too close to the parked and roped off sports cars as well as helping with the Dream Ride fundraiser for charity. Three-hour shifts are available Friday evening, Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning. You can sign up for more than one shift. ATTENTION GRADUATES – PARENT COUNCIL BURSARY:
- The Parent Council of Mother Teresa High School is offering an award of $250 to both a male and female graduate. Applications are now available at Student Services.
- Applications are still being accepted for the following bursaries and are to be submitted to Student Services by Tuesday, May 18, 2010
- The Archbishop’s Award for Catholic Leadership ($500)
- The Director of Education Graduate Student Award ($1000)
- Sylvester Quinn Memorial Award ($1000)
- Msgr. Paul Baxter Memorial Scholarship ($1500)
- ****All but the Baxter Scholarship are guaranteed to be awarded to Mother Teresa graduates. There are a total of six Baxter scholarships for graduates in the Board’s 14 secondary schools. (RB –May 14)
BLACK CANADIAN SCHOLARSHIP: Deadline: May 31, 2010. Award: $5,000 (non-renewable). The scholarship application form can be accessed on our website: http://www.bcsf.ca/en/apply/guidelines. Check out scholarships on the MTHS webpage, under grads for this and other scholarships. Application must satisfy all selection criteria: Black Canadian Student graduating from a high school in the city of Ottawa, be admissible to a recognized Canadian university, demonstrate a need of financial assistance, be a Canadian citizen, demonstrate leadership in community involvement. GRADUATION CEREMONY TICKETS: Each graduate will be given 2 tickets for family to attend the Graduation Ceremony on June 24. To request more than two tickets students must sign up in Student Services from Monday May 3 to Friday May 21. This does not guarantee you will receive the extra number of tickets requested. Tickets will be distributed starting Tuesday June 1. (JH –May 21)
