WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
LOLLIPOPS FOR SPREAD THE NET: Lollipop sales are taking place each Tuesday and Thursday at lunch. Lollipops are $1. The proceeds support Spread the Net by purchasing bed nets to prevent the spread of malaria in Africa. We have purchased 30 nets so far! A bed net is $10 and will last 5 years. Save a child's life and support Spread the Net. Buy a lollipop. (MP -Apr 29)

SEEDS IN RESIDENCE: Any students participating in the Queen's SEEDS program please see Ms. Stewart if you have not selected your activities for the week. Some students may have received an e-mail and completed this at home already. (NS –Apr 30)
7 AND 8 SOCCER INTRAMURALS will be starting next week. Come by and register your team in the cafeteria at a cost of $1 per team. Each team needs six players. (CN –Apr 30)

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS TAKING GRADE 12 BIOLOGY NEXT YEAR: Did you know that seals have been known to hold their breath for over 90 minutes underwater? There will be meeting in room 202 next Tuesday May 4 at lunch for all students interested in going on a 5-day field trip to study Marine Biology in New Brunswick next September. If you are unable to come to the meeting, please see Mrs. Sinclair or Ms. Pipkins for more information. (JS –Apr 29)

GRADE 12 UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO BIOLOGY COMPETITION: The following grade 12 students are to meet in the Career Center, next to the Guidance area, at the beginning of period 2 on Thursday, April 29th. The students participating are Tunc Akkaya, Elijah Gwayumba, Shayne Morris, Randip Komal, Amir Hamid, Leandra Tolusso, Olga Aksentyeva and Carolina Uribe. (ED –Apr 29)

It will be an incredible educational journey to London England, Paris France, Lucerne & Bern Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Vienna Austria. STUDENT SERVICES
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Farley Mowat Public School is hosting a fun day called MayFair on Saturday May 29th. Volunteers are needed from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm to help set up, work the concession stands, bake sale, take tickets at the door, and supervise games. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – 16 YEARS AND UP – SUNDAY MAY 2, 2010: Volunteer at CN Cycle for CHEO at the Canadian War Museum and help support the needs of children with cancer. As a volunteer you will receive lunch, a short-sleeved CN Cycle for CHEO t-shirt, entry into the exclusive volunteer prize draw. Volunteers are required for the following: traffic assistance along the route, set-up and tear-down, post-event clean-up, food concessions. Volunteers need to be on-site between 7:00 - 7:15am on May 2nd for check-in. Most assignments are finished by 1:00 pm. You must pre-register on line at cncycle.ca or send an email to: info@cncycle.ca or by calling 613 737-7979. You will be contacted by mid-April confirming the time and area for which you have been scheduled. (KW –Apr 30)
COMMUNITY HOURS OPPORTUNITY with the North Gower Farmers' Market at 2397 Rogers Stevens Drive (west of Fourth Line Road - Look for the big red barn). 8:30 am to 1:00 pm - Saturdays from May 29th through to October 9th, 2010. Meet and greet customers, inform customers of Market layout, daily draw and prizes, oversee Children's Area (Fish Pond game, etc), special events, assist customers with packages, assist with parking area, recycling stations, etc. Wear clean summer clothing (please no ripped clothing, no muscle shirts, no short shorts, no halters), sturdy sandals or running shoes. CAMP FFIT – FEMALE FIREFIGHTERS IN TRAINING: For Young Women 15 to 19. Get a real-life glimpse into the working life of a firefighter, at a week-long summer camp. Discover how at ottawa.ca, or by calling City Services at 311. Registration opens May 3rd, and cost is $150. Poster is up on the Student Services Board in the atrium. (KW –May 7)
SUMMER FUN! The Royal City Soccer Club is looking for volunteers and counselors-in-training. The RCSC is a non-profit, community organization. It has hosted, for 18 years, soccer camp experiences for over 90,000 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 13 years.
- Qualifications for counselor in training: ages 16-18 by June 28, 2010.
- Qualifications for volunteers: ages 15 or 16 by June 29, 2010
Looking for applicants with the following qualities:
· great with children (ages 5 - 13 years)
· athletic and good soccer experience (counselor-in-training)
· good communication skills
· team-oriented
· energetic and enthusiastic
· interest in coaching/teaching soccer to children (counselor-in-training)
· responsible

GRADS
PROM: There will be a last chance ticket sale for prom on Friday April 30th. Tickets will be on sale at lunch in Room 205. Tickets sell for $75.00 per person and cash or cheque is accepted. One last chance to buy a seat and join your graduating class for a fun night! Please see Ms. Pipkins or Ms. Zivkovic if you have any further questions. (KP –Apr 30)
REMINDER!! GRADUATING STUDENTS – PROM - COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: All graduating students must have completed their forty hours of community service by the date of the school prom if they intend to attend their graduation dance. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK UP PROM TICKETS UNTIL YOUR COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS ARE COMPLETE. This comes about as a result of the practice of some students who left their Community Service Hours to the last month of school and were not able to graduate in June. We are encouraging all our graduating students to submit their hours by May 14th, 2010. (NM –May 7)
