WHOLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

FRIDAY APRIL 23RD IS A PD DAY FOR ALL STUDENTS: There are no classes.  Enjoy your long weekend!

INDOOR CURLING: Don't forget you can try indoor curling in the caf gym today at Senior and Junior lunch. Challenge a friend (you'll compete in pairs).  The closest rock to the bullseye (the button) wins. Prizes will be given for most points. 9-12s sign up outside the wood floor gym, 7/8s sign up outside the 7/8 gym. Come out and cheer on your friends. You can still show up at lunch and participate if there's space left. (DL –Apr 22)

SPREAD THE NET: Lollipop sales are taking place each Tuesday and Thursday at lunch.  Lollipops are $1.  The proceeds support Spread the Net by purchasing bed nets to prevent the spread of malaria in Africa.  We have purchased 30 nets so far! A bed net is $10 and will last 5 years.  Save a child's life and support Spread the Net.  Buy a lollipop. (MP -Apr 22)

7/8 ANNOUNCEMENTS

ATTENTION GRADE 7 & 8 GIRLS: Interested in trying out for the Titan Girls' Softball Team?  Sign your name to the list posted outside room 332. Try-outs will begin next week - stay tuned! (AJ –Apr 22)

HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

REPORT CARDS for students in Grades 9 – 12 will go home at the end of the day Thursday. (Apr 22)

YOUTH BOWLING: St. Monica invites youth from grade 9 to 12 for a night of bowling – Friday April 23rd. Meet at the parish hall at 6:30 p.m. Night finishes at 9 p.m. Bring $10 for bowling fees and bring your friends. (DH –Apr 22)

ATTENTION ALL CO-OP STUDENTS! This is a reminder that Thursday April 22 is an in-school co-op day. Please go to the appropriate computer lab (318 or 213). Four journal entries and the career fair project (ready to assemble on a poster board) are due on that day. (MO –Apr 22)

SHAKIN’ IT WITH SHAKESPEARE: Any winning Shakin' it With Shakespeare groups from the first semester are asked to see their English teachers to arrange scheduling for the competition in the library next week.  You will need to do this by Thursday at the very latest. (JS –Apr 22)

SAY IT OUT LOUD: April is quickly coming to a close, so the English department is anxiously awaiting your poetry submissions.  Please give your typed poem to Mrs. Simpson in Rm 138 by the end of the month.  The March winner will be chosen by the end of the week. (JS –Apr 22)

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS: St Luke's is looking for volunteers to help at their year end party with face painting and supervising. The party will be Friday, June 11th from 6-9 at St Luke. See Mrs Coyle in Student Services to sign up. Deadline to sign up is Thursday, April 22. (TC –Apr 22)

STUDENT VOLUNTEER HOURS ON SATURDAY APRIL 24TH: Help the environment in the Spring Cleanup the Capital road and wetland activity on April 24th 2010 at 10:30.  Location:  Wetlands on Lester Road, between the Airport Parkway and Albion Road, in Ottawa South.  The area is to home to four of Ontario's eight turtle species.  Students are invited to collect litter from these turtles' habitat and along the road abutting the Greenbelt.  Four + hours would work towards the students' volunteer hours.  All interested students should call Cheryl Doran at 613 521-4894.  Check out these sites:  http://www.SaveOurGreenspace.ca or http://www.OttawaUrbanTurtleSanctuary.ca. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – 16 YEARS AND UP – SUNDAY MAY 2, 2010: Volunteer at CN Cycle for CHEO at the Canadian War Museum and help support the needs of children with cancer.  As a volunteer you will receive lunch, a short-sleeved CN Cycle for CHEO t-shirt, entry into the exclusive volunteer prize draw.  Volunteers are required for the following:  traffic assistance along the route, set-up and tear-down, post-event clean-up, food concessions.  Volunteers need to be on-site between 7:00 - 7:15am on May 2nd for check-in.  Most assignments are finished by 1:00 pm.  You must pre-register on line at cncycle.ca or send an email to:  info@cncycle.ca or by calling 613 737-7979.  You will be contacted by mid-April confirming the time and area for which you have been scheduled. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Farley Mowat Public School is hosting a fun day called MayFair on Saturday May 29th.  Volunteers are needed from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm to help set up, work the concession stands, bake sale, take tickets at the door, and supervise games.  Please contact Kim Mechura at kmechura@rogers.com for more information, and to sign up. COMMUNITY HOURS OPPORTUNITY with the North Gower Farmers' Market at 2397 Rogers Stevens Drive (west of Fourth Line Road - Look for the big red barn).  8:30 am to 1:00 pm - Saturdays from May 29th through to October 9th, 2010.  Meet and greet customers, inform customers of Market layout, daily draw and prizes, oversee Children's Area (Fish Pond game, etc), special events, assist customers with packages, assist with parking area, recycling stations, etc.   Wear clean summer clothing (please no ripped clothing, no muscle shirts, no short shorts, no halters), sturdy sandals or running shoes.  See Registration Form in Student Services.
