Day 1 - H.S. & Day 3 - Gr. 7 & 8

Lenten Regulations for Fasting and Abstinence

In the Roman rite, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and of abstinence from meat. The law of abstinence from meat binds those who are 14 and older; the law of fasting binds those from 18-59. As is our tradition, the cafeteria will not be serving meat on their menu today. Please take this opportunity to fast and abstain at the beginning of Lent as a reminder that we need to make more room in our lives for God and the gospel.

"Christian fasting obtains its full meaning when we deprive ourselves of food in order to be more open for prayer, to share more in the suffering of those who are starving, and to save money to give to the poor. Fasting is a penitential discipline intended to open our hearts to God and others, a means of purification and spiritual liberation, and a witness to the depth of our faith.” (Canadian Catholic Bishops)
